My name is J. Ryan Trapp and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Plymouth, Michigan. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Albion College in Albion, Michigan, and a Master’s Degree (MS) in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I offer psychotherapy/counseling, assessments, monitoring and testing for behavior and mood, consultation, and behavioral health support in an outpatient setting.
My Mission
As a professional counselor, my mission is to provide outstanding advocacy, mental health care, and support to the adults, children and families that I serve. I use a client-focused, solutions-based, multi-systemic approach to counseling. I work hard to recognize and respect the behaviors, ideas, attitudes, values, beliefs, customs, languages, rituals, and practices characteristic of your cultural group. I pull from a variety of theories and techniques to fit your needs. Some techniques and interventions used during counseling are cognitive-restructuring, enactments, symptoms monitoring, mindfulness training, behavioral modification, play therapy, rituals, narrative therapy, role play, and psychoeducation. I am happy to discuss my methodology with you futher. During counseling, we will explore the various experiences and systems in your life, all of which contribute to patterns of behavior, thinking, and emotion. I comply with the Code of Ethics for Professional Counselors and will provide you with a copy upon request.
Goals and a plan for treatment are major parts of my counseling services. Together we will identify what it is you hope to accomplish in counseling, and we will create a specific plan for doing so. The goals in counseling are your goals; I’m here to support you in working towards them. I believe you have the ability to find answers within yourself, and together we will explore what you need for a meaningful and healthy life.
